HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL COFFEE DAY
While various "National Coffee Days" had been celebrated in different countries (the U.S., for example, often celebrated on September 29th), the official International Coffee Day was established by the International Coffee Organization (ICO).
The decision to create a single, unified day of celebration was made by the member states of the ICO in March 2014. The first official International Coffee Day was launched on October 1, 2015, in Milan, Italy, as part of Expo 2015. Since then, it has become a worldwide event, with many countries and coffee associations joining the celebration.
Coffee is one of the best loved beverages around the globe. For the vast majority of us, our day doesn’t start until we’ve sipped the warm, rich flavours and many will also see it as the perfect accompaniment to a catch up with friends or family. It’s no secret that coffee forms a huge part of our daily lives, so it’s only right that there’s an international coffee day to celebrate it!

Our roastery’s design is a profound nod to the island's history, drawing inspiration from the Mbaru Niang, the traditional conical houses of Wae Rebo Village. As one of the seven ancient houses in this remote coffee-producing hub, the Mbaru Niang symbolizes the deep connection between the people of Flores and their land. The roastery’s striking architecture echoes this design with a soaring, cone-shaped ceiling that pays homage to the unique craftsmanship of the villagers.

The ceiling is lined with coffee sacks—the very same ones local farmers use to transport their prized beans. This design element not only adds a rustic, earthy feel but also tells the story of each bean's journey from the fertile soil of Flores to the cup in our guests' hands.
